Utilizing the WNG-2122 Gateway vs.
Utilizing Pure Lonworks Integration

Implementing the WNG-2122 as an interface between an external LonWorks Control System and a Douglas W-2000 Lighting Control Network allows the integration of the W-2000 Network with multiple panels to be the equivalent of configuring and binding one device. After intergration, lighting control network management and programming can still be performed within the W-2000 system via its user-friendly system interface.

The advantage in implementing the WNG-2122 Gateway can be significant. In some cases, however, it may still be preferable to utilize straight LonWorks integration of the lighting control network. Here are benefits and constraints for each approach:

LONWORKS LIGHTING GATEWAY

lonworks lighting gateway

BENEFITS:

  • Less integration time
  • Douglas lighting control network is easily adjusted with standard 'Technical Support'
  • Lighting control network is self managed
  • Only one element needs commissioning
  • Minimal binding structure
  • Programming accomplished via Douglas interfaces
  • WNP-2150 Network Manager support, giving the end user simplified control of the lighting system
  • Pre-programming of lighting control network can be completed at Douglas factory before shipping

  • CONSTRAINTS:

  • Different limits of the Integrator's interface may hinder functionality
  • The SNVT_State_64 function is not easily utilized
  • Not all variables are exposed, limiting direct control
  • Programming the lighting control network cannot be completed at a central location without a WNP-2150 Network Manager
  • PURE LONWORKS INTEGRATION

    LonWorks

    BENEFITS:

  • All units can be controlled individually
  • All network variables are exposed
  • Easy access to relay state information
  • Programming can be stored in one LNS database
  • Compliance with Echelon LonMark Standards
  • LNS plug-ins are available

  • CONSTRAINTS:

  • Different limits of the Integrator's interface may hinder functionality
  • Higher integration time
  • All programming MUST be completed through the integrator interface
  • All units must be commissioned and managed by the Integrator
  • Utilizing either method will lead to a compete and functional lighting control system. The choice will depend on your preferences, the capabilities of your interface and the nature of your application.
